Our company's sustained efforts towards improving the cleanliness standards are evident through the various initiatives carried out at all our locations and at all levels of our businesses. We emphasize on behaviour change being at the heart of this mission and clean sanitation being of high importance. Effective methods of waste management and implementation of public awareness activities is just the first step towards this goal.
GUJARAT SIDHEE CEMENT LIMITED
Gujarat Sidhee Cement Limited was commissioned in the year 1987 and adopts modern dry process technology for manufacture of clinker and cement.
A. Waste management in the offices
GSCL is working towards the concept of paperless office by using the facilities of ERP system, E-mails, meetings, presentation etc. In addition to this, we are using Shredder Machine for destroying redundant documents and the waste paper is recycled.
B. Segregation of waste collection:
We have a system to collect wet and dry and the waste from Plant as well as our Colony areas and after collecting, it is being segregated and disposed off in a proper manner.
We have 174 quarters in our housing colony and they are facilitated for effective waste collection and a contract has been awarded to a professional contractor to collect the segregated waste.
C. Solid waste management (including e-waste)
Generally, in GSCL the solid waste generated in the cement manufacturing process is reprocessed and the reprocessing system is practically on-line. The domestic and bio-degradable waste generated from housing colony and offices are properly collected, segregated and recycled and reused.
GSCL has initiated various techniques for solid waste management:
1. Vermi Composting
GSCL has established two unit of Vermi Composting in our premises to cater Canteen & Guest House waste. Vermi composting is the technique to use deep burrowing Earthworm species to convert the canteen waste, garden waste, sanitation waste, house hold waste, sewage sludge, garbage etc. into organic manure which is rich in plant nutrients, free from any smell.
2. Eco Friendly Garbage Management
We are doing door to door collection of House hold garbage & Garden Waste through Bullock Cart which is decomposed in specified Garbage pit and the end product is used as organic manure.
The other solid waste and construction waste are reuse in filling, making rock garden etc.
E-waste: All the e-waste generated in plant is store in designated bin in store and sale to registered recycler. GSCL has taken membership from M/s. GREENCARE E- RECYCLE COMPANY (authorized by state pollution control board) for collection, transport, recycle and disposal of E- waste as per Ewaste management and handling rule 2016.
D. Hazardous waste management
The waste (used) oil generated from machinery is handled, strictly following the rule for collection, storage, transportation and disposal by selling to registered recyclers and also use the same by way of co-processing in cement kiln. The generation of waste oil is reducing over the years since hydraulic oil is reused after processing with centrifugal sepeartor.
We use waste by products of other industries like flyash from thermal power plants, iron sludge, petcoke, copper slag, chemical gypsum, phopho gypsum etc.
E. Recycling and reuse of waste
Recycling of liquid waste:
GSCL adopts dry process technology for cement manufacturing process and water is used only for machinery cooling and in situ dust suppression. Therefore, no any industrial waste water generation from process.
The domestic sewage water is generated which is recycled and reused for irrigation and agricultural purpose.We have established three nos. sewage treatment plant of 100 KLD each in different locations in our housing colony & township and all the sewage water is recycled in scientific manner and reused for greenbelt development and dust suppression in captive mines. We recycle 75000 KL waste water every year and reuse it.
Recycling of Solid waste:
All the fine dust generated in process are collected by the associated pollution control devices like Bag House, electro static precipitator and bag filters are reused in process.
The scrap materials are periodically sold to registered party for recycling and reuse.
F. Industry participation in construction of Public / Community toilets
We have earmarked funds for construction of 15 toilets in the nearby villages in liaison with local village bodies. The estimated cost for construction of toilets will be approximately Rs.5.00 lakhs.

I. Industry's role in Eradication of Manual Scavenging & Elimination of open defecation.
Periodically awareness programs are organised for the employees and their families as well as for the students of our English Medium School. We also organize awareness programs in nearby villages for healthy sanitation practices by our qualified sanitation staff. In addition to that every month on 1st and 15th day of the month we conduct gate meeting for contract labours, contractor and employees. During such meetings, motivational message is conveyed by Unit Head and individuals are awarded with certificate and cash for the contribution towards best practices.
From time to time, we organize various Camps with the help of NGOs and our Medical Team to generate awareness about sanitation and its linkage with health. Our Medical Team also organize free health check up camps for the Anganwadis of nearby Villages and during this camp, our Chief Medical Officer give the presentation / speech in a local language. Our Medical Team also give awareness tips during OPD hours.
J. Planting trees in office complex.
GSCL firmly believes and is committed to maintain ecological balance and protect the surrounding environment. To keep our environment healthy, tree plantation becomes everybody's responsibility and duty. Tree Plantation program have been carried out at every available opportunities like World environment day, earth day and Ozone day etc.
GSCL has developed plantation and landscape gardens near all offices and town ship / also.
The total plantation developed in Sidheegram premises are 1.31 lakh forest trees, 6585 fruit trees and 56372 shrubs. During the year 2016 a total no,. of 5035 trees were planted and preserved.

As part of the "Swachh Bharat Mission" announced by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi , Gujarat Sidhee Cement Limited organized a massive special cleanliness campaign on 2nd October, Gandhi Jayanti Diwas involving 'Shramdaan' and awareness activities at Sidheegram Colony area.
Under the Sustainable Action proposed to be taken from 2nd October, 2014, there will be regular events on cleanliness to be organized in the next five years. The first focus should be clean and hygienic toilets in particular those located at public buildings. Under this mission it shall be ensured that colonies and offices are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition.
